Monthly Spotlight May 2022: Bring Change to Mind (BC2M)

By Michelle Lunger

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! In honor of this month, we decided to give the spotlight to Bring Change to Mind (BC2M). Bring Change to Mind is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to encouraging the dialogue about mental health, and to raising awareness, understanding, and empathy. BC2M was co-founded by actress and activist Glenn Close in 2010 following her sister’s diagnosis of bipolar disorder as well as her nephew’s diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. BC2M’s mission is to end the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness. In order to do this, BC2M creates multimedia campaigns, curates storytelling movements, and develops youth programs to encourage a “diverse cultural conversation” around mental illness. Just like Bring Change to Mind, we share the belief that the ability to speak out and open up about mental health and mental illness brings about change and inspiration “to another, and another.” Being vulnerable and sharing your experience can help another in some unimaginable ways. I know it has for us, the founders of Ride The Wave, and we hope that as we continue sharing that it can help even just one more person. Join us as we “bring change to mind” together. Also, be sure to stay posted because in the following week or so we will have a piece of merchandise in which a portion of the proceeds will be donated to BC2M. This is to celebrate the wonderful work they’ve done, are continuing doing, and for May Mental Health Awareness Month. Let’s work together to destigmatize mental illness and provide mental health awareness for all.
