Monthly Spotlight September 2022: the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)
By Michelle Lunger
In honor of suicide prevention month, we decided it was fitting to give the spotlight back to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). AFSP is an voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action towards this leading cause of death. AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. They strive to create a culture that is smart about mental health by engaging in funding scientific research, educating the public about mental health and suicide prevention, advocating for public policies; and lastly, supporting the survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide. AFSP is a excellent resource to educate yourself and others about suicide. If you are struggling or you know someone that is, AFSP can help you find treatment or a support group if needed. With that said, if you are in crisis or even struggling with suicidal thoughts you can call a crisis hotline at 800-273-8255 or text TALK to 741741. We stand with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in their mission to provide research, education, and advocacy to take action towards suicide! Check out our content the rest of the month as we advocate for suicide prevention. And lastly, stay tuned for our limited edition sweatshirt and t-shirt launching Wednesday, September 7th at 1pm on www.greybandit.com. 30% of the net proceeds from the sale of both the sweatshirt and t-shirt will be donated to AFSP. Stay safe and remember that you are not alone in this.
