Monthly Spotlight April 2023: SAMHSA
By Michelle Lunger
For April’s spotlight we chose to highlight the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). SAMHSA is an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services which leads public health efforts “to advance the behavioral health of the nation and to improve the lives of individuals living with mental and substance use disorders, and their families.” To do this, they promote overall mental wellbeing and provide education and resources to prevent substance misuse. They also provide treatment and support while making sure mental health care is accessible and adequate. On their website samhsa.gov , you can use their database to find treatment options for mental and substance abuse disorders, as well as practitioner training, grants, data, programs, publications and more. Overall, SAMHSA “envisions that people with, affected by, or at risk for mental health and substance use conditions receive care, thrive, and achieve wellbeing.” We at RTW, believe and support SAMHSA’s vision and the importance of prioritizing mental wellness- especially for those with mental health conditions to receive adequate care to thrive and achieve overall wellbeing. Join us as we continue to support the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration with their drive to better the mental health of Americans.
